Creating a healthy workplace setting takes intentional work from all parties involved. The role of the employer is crucial in contributing to that environment. So how do you find the right person for the job?
Hire Slowly
Take your time reviewing applications so you actually understand your candidates. Do they have experience? How do they present themselves? Do their professional and personal profiles align with the company's brand? These are all worth carefully considering.
Hire Intelligently
You do not need to hire someone to do a job that you or someone else on the team can already do. What you do need to do is evaluate the real gaps in the company and find someone who can fill them.
Create and Agree to Expectations
Be very up-front about what a position will demand from a new employee. The last thing any workplace needs is confusion. Set pre-established expectations and agree to them in writing to mitigate future miscommunication.
Take The Shot
It is difficult to find a candidate who is a 100% fit for the position, but the job still needs to be done. After a careful evaluation of the options at hand, take your shot and proceed accordingly.
In the latest episode of WTF Talks, Dave and Hannah discuss how to find the right person for the job, touching on the points above and more. You can watch the full segment on YouTube.
